In colonial homes, a keeping room was an informal family room just off the kitchen. It was a favorite spot because of its proximity to the kitchen stove, which kept the room cozy and warm. It was a place where friends and families would gather after dinner for games and music, conversation and prayer. It was a favorite place to be.
