Why we do what we do

In colonial homes, a keeping room was an informal family room just off the kitchen. It was a favorite spot because of it’s proximity to the kitchen stove which kept the room cozy and warm. It was a place where friends and families would gather after dinner for games & music, conversation & prayer.

Every home should be a warm place of gathering. So, that’s what we seek to accomplish for our clients.

Amanda Kessler opened The Keeping Room in 2014 as a retailer of custom draperies, bedding and home furnishings. In 2017 we made a move to a design studio where we can better serve private clients, offering full-service interior design. We maintain an extensive fabric and paper library and welcome clients to the studio for inspiration and collaboration. In 2011 Amanda oversaw the complete renovation of her family’s stone 1920’s home. The process established in her a love of old homes and the details that make them one of a kind. She always strives to honor the history of every home, holding onto unique details while adding fresh elements of design. She thoughtfully balances both beauty and function to create spaces that reflect the client and are a joy to live in.

Your home should be your favorite place to be.
